Journalism trained me to research thoroughly, distinguish essential information from background detail, ask precise questions of subject matter experts, and write with a clear understanding of audience and purpose.
Technical writing builds on that foundation. It requires curiosity, discipline research, and the ability to turn expert knowledge into content that people can understand and use.
Reporting gave me a method for finding the right information and identifying why it matters. Technical documentation gives that method a new application: creating content that is purposeful and built to support the people who depend on it.
